So,,
@CasualBystander

Lets say L M actually presents a working (patented ) fusion reactor in the near future..

I can tell you they've struck gold. No need to manufacture any sorts of mil.defence systems or weapons any more.
They could spend the rest of their patentened days producing and selling fusion reactors to the rest of the world.

They might have to find a new name for their business thoo.. L M dont ring particulary good overseas..

Perhaps,, Martin Lockheed Green Fusion - MLGF Inc. Would work..

We should find out shortly. 2019 is right around the corner.

They did at one time.....but the project was cancelled.

Well, it ceased to exist as a "white" project after proof-of-concept was done on all the hardware.

I think L M have watched too many U-tube vids,lol

This isn't like when some dumbass warmunist scientist publishes a ream of pure bull and there is no pushback.

This is a major defense contractor. They have credibility to worry about.

... hmm

According to CBS Washington, the prototype system would be the size of a normal shipping container but capable of producing enough energy to power 80,000 residential homes or a Nimitz-class aircraft carrier, sometime in the next year or so.

The patent, tilted “Encapsulating Magnetic Fields for Plasma Confinement,” is dated Feb. 15, 2018. CBS indicates that Skunk Works, also known as Lockheed Martin’s Advanced Development Programs or its advanced R&D group, has reportedly been developing the compact fusion reactor since about 2014, with latest reports suggesting the technology could be ready for production by 2019.

Oh, they didn't announce this, someone leaked it to CBS. That's different.

Standard shipping container is 67.5 m3. That isn't very big.

Just the plasma volume on ITER is 830 m3. It weighs about 23,000 metric tons or 3 times as much as the Eiffel Tower. ITER is at least 18 meters high by 18 meters in diameter. That is at least 3053.63 m3 (that is just computed from the field coil size - it could be 3500 m3 or more with the base and support systems.

Throughout that time, it would be consistently pumping out 100MW of power, enough to power up to 80,000 homes. When discussing how it could impact aircraft design, Lockheed Martin said that this amount of power would allow it to fly indefinitely and would only be hampered by the crew’s need for food and water on the ground. The likelier option is that this would translate extremely well into drone aircraft used to patrol the skies for years at a time, which, admittedly, sounds a little terrifying.”

Fuel and forget - that is like the Navy reactors.

ITER has to be continuously fueled.

I want one.

Size of standard shipping container. You can park it behind your house and just hook up electric cables.

Yes they sure do

But like I said.. If it works and they have got some brains.. They will sell it for/to civilian global energy production..
More money in that sector...

Just like Mr Fusion in the "Back to the Future" movies......a lot more money there.
