I think with a series like Doctor Who, that becomes this serialized people tend to get caught up in the moment and see the series as either a success or failure. Hear me out, people will like or dislike whatever they want and even that will change over time or even with the times. But what's changed with doctor who essentially, most people aren't seeing is all the retconned continuity changes To the core canon of the doctor himself.
Almost every canon rule has been broken with the character. originally he was just a man from an alien planet who stole a ship and ran off to Earth with his granddaughter. later he was punished 'by " the timelords of Gallifrey to regenerate a certain number of lives banished to the earth until he had paid for his crime.. later, with the introduction of the master it was revealed that not only was the doctor a timelord, but the master was as well.. later still the doctor had regenerated well beyond his expected regeneration cycles so there were questions... I think the new guy is either the 14th or 15th doctor... so at one point or another, the gallery stuff just wasn't cutting it anymore because seemingly the doctor was as well beyond his own people as he was ordinary humans, completely outclassing and outwitting them and even saving their planet from a time war basically all by himself yet with all his incarnations at once.. it was truly epic.. anyway, now there is speculation that the doctor isn't Galifreian at all but rather an entity called the timeless child, an immortal entity who does not age and to recover from ailments and injury will regenerate, it was later revealed by the master that the Galifreians more or less found the doctor and experimented on him to get their own version of regeneration by backward genetic engineering his genome. basically, timelords are the people resulting from these genetic experiments.. like the Master for example. however, the doctor is different, being the timeless child and all.. functionally immortal...
new stuff to watch out for.. this regeneration is kind of interesting.. with two doctors and two Tardises you know that's gonna come into play eventually. don't forget that Master will be back, as the gold tooth containing him was mysteriously retrieved at the end there.. Also, the toy maker made a reference to an entity he feard to play a game with and the doctor questioned him about it, The One Who Waits... whoever it is must be epic if the toymaker will capture the Master and face two doctors at once but won't face that guy...
So far the new doctor seems like a likable guy.. I'm all in so far...
