Why discovering aliens is a really BAD idea

I recently picked up a phrase "cognitive dissonance" so this is a good opportunity to use it because that line of thought is full of it.

First, if we discover life in our galaxy, that doesn't mean that they'll immediately come here. One reason they be more primitive then us, second reason it might take 100 or even 1,000 years to exchange messages.

Second, if aliens are more advanced then us, then aliens already had discovered us. Possibly even few million years ago. All we can do is discover that we had been discovered. In that case it might even turn out that aliens had already been here, and so on.

This 100%. We have always interacted with entities from other planes of existence, whether we call them gods, angels, demons, fairies, sprites, goblins, or aliens. I believe there are places in the world where the border between planes is very thin, and entities can more easily cross into our plane and vice versa.

Dejan is right though. Anyone can see that our planet is a live one in our galaxy, even through light lag. Supposing they have the tech for it, They would even see it in Andromeda or other nearby galaxies, because its been there for so long. What they can't see is our lighted atmosphere or technological signatures, which has only been there for a very short time, unless someone is rather close, say 100 LY or so. Technology that leaks signals into space is new here.

Also some issues I have with the alien invasion motives:

Slaves: Why would they want soft human slaves? You have to take care of the slaves, you have to feed them, clothe them, have places for them to sleep as they need it. Why resort to that when you could just build advanced robots, that can do the jobs more efficiently in any environment, who don't need food or sleep and hardcode them to absolutely obey you?

Resources: Why Earth? What is here that cannot be found on other worlds? Water? Theres plenty of water and ice in space, even on other worlds and asteroids. Other planets have vast mineral riches too. Biology might be only thing that might intrest some parties here? But say it is food? Why capture Earth critters for food purposes, when you could just clone or grow what you needed genetically?

Also the spread of viruses is a bit stupid. Alien ships would not be like the schooners of the old days. Id imagine theyd have very effective scanning and decontamination tech/chambers. No unwanted organism gets on or off. That is if the passengers are even biological at all? What if they are post biological?

Most of the stories of humans being kidnapped, they end up in a vat of liquid. That’s not the way I want to go out.

Agree totally. If the aliens wanted to invade or colonize they would have done so a long time ago, especially before we went nuclear. I think we may be something like a long term Anthropology project for them.

Who wants to even think about dying?

It's very important for many to 'prepare' for that moment of passing, because that moment is just as if not more important than the moment of birth...Its not something that should consume our lives, dwelling on the moment of death is pointless and a waste, however it should be properly 'prepared' for...On the other side we prepare for birth, so on this side we prepare for our death (passing back to the other side)...

As above, so below...

Honestly, I have no fear at all of my own death. In fact I'm looking forward to seeing what's on the other side. Or, mebbe just act II. I am scared to death of losing loved ones and pets though.

Maybe they want this whole planet for themselves in the future (as long as we don't wreck it too much) and hope we kill ourselves off?...

I get losing loved ones, but pets?

Must admit I always wanted to have a Doberman or German Shepherd, but never did.

You want to learn how to communicate with a non-human go get a pet. Might make chatting up ET easier, who knows? Forget the heavy math, maybe just a little belly rub or scratch on the backside is a better way to start.

Didn't Putin pull a little kids shirt up somewhere and use his lips to make farty noises on the kid's belly button? I vote him to be our Earth Ambassador - he seems to have an intuitive flair.
