Terrified driver is kidnapped by his own runaway electric car - and has to dial 999 and crash into a police van before he can stop

Brian Morrison, 53, (right) says was heading home from work in Glasgow on Sunday when his new £30,000 MG ZS EV suffered a 'catastrophic malfunction'. Unable to use the brakes, the motorist called police - who eventually stopped the vehicle by allowing it to slowly crash into their van. Mr Morrison said that he was 'lucky' that the incident had taken place late at night at just after 10pm. 'I realised something was wrong when I was coming up to a roundabout and went to slow down but it failed to do so,' he said.

I was initially thinking 'well, we've all had our moments behind the wheel when the line between active participant and spectator gets a bit blurry'. Often when doing something stupid. Then I read he bought an expensive "new Chinese-made fully electric car" and said 'yup, he was doing something stupid'.

BMW to sell cars with a hands-free driving mode next year that allows users to watch films and check emails at speeds up to 37mph on motorways

BMW has confirmed that the 'Personal Pilot' feature will bring 'Level 3' autonomy to German roads from March. While a spokesperson for the car giant said there is currently 'no timeline' for bringing this functionality to the UK market, BMW could soon be able to introduce it under new rules being outlined by the Government around the legal use of self-driving vehicles in Britain. We explain how it all works.

This could be terrific, especially as I don't enjoy driving. But I fear the potential for dangerous mishaps. Maybe after it has been extensively debugged.

The Mail article describes it as only for motorways in Britain, but motorways are road with speed limits of 70mph (or, recently, sometimes 50mph in sections). The traffic will only be going at 37mph (presumably 60 km/h) or less on these roads if there is congestion.

Billionaire Elon Musk told advertisers who have fled his social media platform X over antisemitic content to "Go f**k yourself" during an interview at a New York Times DealBook Summit on Wednesday. Musk has faced a torrent of criticism ever since he agreed with one X user who falsely claimed Jewish people were stoking hatred against white people. He has since apologized for what he called his "dumbest ever social media post." A slew of brands, including Disney and Apple, decided to stop advertising on the platform earlier this month.

Optimus Gen 2.

Tesla unveils second generation of its humanoid Optimus robot

The impressive new robot is even more capable than its predecessor as well as being both faster and lighter. When Elon Musk first revealed that Tesla was developing an affordable, autonomous humanoid robot, it was unclear if the tech billionaire would ever actually be able to deliver on his promise.

As it turned out, the robot - named Optimus - was the real deal, though when it was first unveiled in 2022, its slow movement and limited abilities made Musk's vision seem quite a long way off. Now, though, Tesla's second iteration of Optimus has been revealed and it is fair to say that the robot is beginning to look like it might just live up to what Musk envisaged two years ago.

What's more, the progress made in such a short amount of time is genuinely impressive.

Optimus Gen 2 is 30% faster and 10kg lighter than its predecessor, its hands have been upgraded with tactile sensing on all its fingers and it is sporting an upgraded array of sensors and actuators. As the demonstration video below shows, it still looks as though it has had an unfortunate accident when it starts walking around, but that's something that will likely improve over time as well.

Musk's ultimate goal is to create a robot that can "eliminate dangerous, repetitive and boring tasks" ranging from cooking meals in the home to carrying heavy objects in the workplace. While there is still some way to go before we are likely to see robots like this one in every household, Optimus Gen 2 is no doubt a step in the right direction.

Tesla robot ATTACKS an engineer at company's Texas factory during violent malfunction - leaving 'trail of blood' and forcing workers to hit emergency shutdown button

A Tesla engineer was attacked by a robot during a brutal and bloody malfunction at the company's Giga Texas factory near Austin. Two witnesses watched in horror as their fellow employee was attacked by the machine designed to grab and move freshly cast aluminum car parts. The incident - which left the victim with an 'open wound' on his left hand - was revealed in a 2021 injury report filed to Travis county and federal regulators. It comes as data shows one in every 21 Giga Texas workers was injured on the job in 2022. But now an attorney aiding contract laborers at the factory tells DailyMail.com that there's evidence Tesla may have under-reported accidents to state and federal regulators.

Elon Musk issues warning after NYC students pushed out of school to house migrants: 'Will come for your homes'

Elon Musk issued an ominous warning after New York City students were forced into remote learning Wednesday as their school was used to house migrants Tuesday night.

"This is what happens when you run out of hotel rooms. Soon, cities will run out of schools to vacate. Then they will come for your homes," Musk wrote Tuesday on X.

Musk responded to a video shared by the LibsofTikTok account showing migrants being dropped off from a yellow school bus to James Madison High School in Brooklyn.

"School is closed tomorrow because illegals will be sleeping in the school’s gym. This is disgraceful! NYC is prioritizing illegals over Americans," LibsofTikTok wrote.

Musk doubled down, writing, "They’ve run out of hotel rooms, are kicking kids out of school for illegal housing and now they want your homes too."

That was in response to LibsofTiktok sharing a screenshot of an Aug. 9, 2023, article by Boston 25 News with the headline, "Governor Healey asks residents to house migrant families amid growing shelter crisis." In Massachusetts, Gov. Maura Healey, who declared a state of emergency over the crisis, had asked residents to consider sponsoring migrant families by hosting them in their homes as the state's shelter system reached capacity, according to the outlet.

In a press release, New York City Council Minority Whip Inna Vernikov said earlier Tuesday that due to the incoming storm, "around 2,000 migrants from Floyd Bennett field will be transported to James Madison High School this evening and will be occupying its gymnasiums and auditorium overnight."

"Our public schools are meant to be places of learning and growth for our children, and were never intended to be shelters or facilities for emergency housing," Vernikov wrote. "There are approximately 4,000 students who attend Madison High School. Their parents are rightfully concerned. Our constituents who live in the vicinity are concerned for their safety and wellbeing. This will agitate local residents, disrupt the entire school environment, and place a tremendous burden on families, students, school administrators and staff."

Vernikov demanded a "full stop" to using public schools as migrant shelters, saying the situation at Floyd Bennett Field was "both unacceptable and was entirely foreseeable" due to the site’s vulnerability to inclement weather.
