'Star Wars' actor threatens Elon Musk with Twitter boycott after name rebrand: 'Let's show the owner'

Mark Hamill is calling on Twitter users to boycott the site on Aug. 1

Actor Mark Hamill is calling on other Twitter users to boycott the site on Aug. 1 in an apparent attempt to protest Elon Musk’s ownership of the social media platform that's rebranding as "X."

"This will only be effective if EVERYONE refrains from tweeting (X-ing?) on August 1st a/k/a #TweetlessTuesday. Let's show the owner the POWER OF THE PEOPLE. Honestly, would it kill you to keep your thoughts to yourself for 1 d--- day? Read a book!" Hamill told his fans Sunday.

The "Star Wars" actor also made another call to boycott Twitter on Saturday. "Looking forward to taking a day off on #TweetlessTuesday!!!"

Hamill is one of the leading voices lashing out at Musk over his major changes to the site. He also insulted Twitter's new logo in July, sharing a picture of the "X" on the company's offices in San Francisco.

"Has everybody seen the (eXecrable) new logo?" the star wrote, making a pun on Twitter’s new name. Hamill also tweeted the hashtags "ByeByeBirdie" and "TaTaTwitter."

Hamill's most recent post attacking Musk's leadership of the platform went viral, racking up over 4.6 million views and more than 44,500 likes as of publication.

Leftist political commentator and influencer "Jo" said that she would follow Hamill "into the depths of hell," even it meant avoiding weighing in on big news.

SpaceX has launched 15 more Starlink satellites from the Vandenberg Space Force Base in California. En route to orbit, the Falcon 9 rocket tore a hole in the ionosphere. The red light in the video is *not* rocket exhaust. Instead, it is the afterglow of a charge exchange reaction between rocket exhaust (mostly water) and gases in the ionosphere. The reaction quenched local ionization by as much as 70%, essentially erasing the ionosphere along the rocket's path.

Wow, Biden is going after Elon Musk for hiring American citizens...

Biden administration SUES Elon Musk's SpaceX for 'only hiring US citizens' and 'discouraging' asylum seekers and refugees from applying for jobs

The Biden administration on Thursday accused Elon Musk's rocket and satellite company Space of discriminating against asylum seekers and refugees in its hiring practices. The Justice Department is suing the company for backpay for people who were denied jobs. 'The lawsuit alleges that, from at least September 2018 to May 2022, SpaceX routinely discouraged asylees and refugees from applying and refused to hire or consider them, because of their citizenship status, in violation of the Immigration and Nationality Act,' the Justice Department said in a statement.

I thought that only US citizens were eligible for jobs in the space sector in America?

Little yellow dots are the new version of starlink. The traditional sat icon ones are the original starlinks. This is how many starlink sats are above North America right now.

I posted raising here because of the implications of this supply for electric cars...I assume Elon Musk builds his own batteries, with this deposit of Lithium he would not have to go far to get it lol...

...

Lithium deposit found in US may be among world’s largest, study finds

A deposit of lithium recently discovered along the Nevada-Oregon border may be among the world’s largest, having potentially huge implications for the transition to electric vehicles.

Volcanologists and geologists from Lithium Americas Corporation, GNS Science, and Oregon State University reported their findings in a paper for Science Advances, published August 31.

The deposit exists in the McDermitt Caldera, a caldera approximately 28 miles long and 22 miles wide. It is believed that the caldera contains around 20 to 40 million metric tons of lithium – a figure that would dwarf deposits in Chile and Australia.

Belgian geologist Anouk Borst told Chemistry World that the findings "could change the dynamics of lithium globally, in terms of price, security of supply and geopolitics."

Let me guess - it's located on a preserve or Native American territory?
I found this:

The Thacker Pass lithium deposit, located within the caldera, is a prospect that in 2017 was said to be the most significant lithium-clay resource in the U.S.

In late January 2023, car giant General Motors announced it would invest $650M in the mine project, giving GM exclusive access to the first phase of production.

The project has met resistance in the form of legal challenges and direct action. Several indigenous tribes with traditional homeland in the area oppose the project. These tribes have stated that Thacker Pass is a sacred site, a massacre site, and that they were not adequately consulted by the Bureau of Land Management. Opponents of the mine have voiced concerns about rushed environmental review, threats to critical wildlife habitat, disruption of cultural sites, and links between resource extraction and missing and murdered indigenous women.

9th Circuit denies emergency bid to halt Nevada lithium mine at Thacker Pass

RENO, Nev. (AP) — A federal appeals court refused Wednesday to block construction of the largest lithium mine in the U.S. while it considers claims by Nevada conservationists and tribes that the government illegally approved it in a rush to produce raw materials for electric vehicle batteries.

The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals denied a request for an emergency injunction that would have prevented a subsidiary of Lithium Americas from moving forward with the project near the Oregon line at the third largest known lithium deposit in the world.
