I don't think he refuses to seek government assistance - it is not like he is someone who has any kind of shame about such things.

I suspect he has probably asked for it at some point and they have told him that he doesn't qualify because he is living beyond his means and could easily fix his finances if he stopped doing that.

Government assistance is only for people (who through no fault of their own) are unable to support themselves. It is not there to support people who simply refuse to control their spending and live within their means.

Either that or he simply stopped the discussion as soon as they asked for copies of his bank records and financial documents in order to make the assessment - the kind of things they have to ask for.

In all likelihood it never even got far enough for them to tell him he was ineligible because Gene knew if they saw his financial situation that would only raise more questions and could get him into trouble with other parts of the government - e.g. bankruptcy fraud, withholding income, tax evasion etc.

So I'm pretty certain Gene would have tried to get it, it's just the authorities are used to people trying to scam them in this way (and so are much harder to fool than the average person who tends to take what people say at face value).

As soon as Gene realised that he couldn't con them out of money he would have stopped trying and doubled his e-begging efforts.

His favorite thing lately is repeatedly commenting on Randall's use of an echo effect.

If I were his co-host I would squeeze Steinberg for a share of the money coming in from advertisements. I would also want to see the financial records to make sure I was not being cheated. No money then no guests. See how long those precious websites last.

There is no longer anything in it for the co-hosts though. At least when Chris O'Brien joined the Paracast was still semi-respectable (though news of his shenanigans was leaking out). Nowadays the only thing you get for being a co-host is extra work and having your reputation destroyed. I have a feeling that Randall will be the last co-host.

Well I suspect the paranormal community is somewhere where people are so desperate for attention that they might just do lots of work for nothing. The problem is even those people aren't going to work for Gene because they will destroy their chances of ever working in the field again (for free or not).

Just to play Devil's Advocate here, I do have a recurring thought that leaves me a bit unsettled about this thread . Despite the con game from - how long ago? - what if GS is just a doorknob who expected and virtually demanded revenue from his podcasts and really is an old **** having problems? Not that I'm opening my wallet one micron, just wondering.

Nevermind the poopyfinger behavior in his own forums or the questionable editing of his cohost, it appears as if his loss of memberships has made the appeals a bit more plaintive. Sometimes people change from evil to pathetic and we don't catch it right away.

Phew. Maybe that was the Roman Catholic upbringing in me that I can't quite stamp out. If I'm wrong I'll go waterboard myself. Or maybe beerboard. We'll see.

Recovering Catholic here too. Sometimes I start to feel bad for mocking an old fuck-up who can't get his act together, but then I remember the despicable Hurricane Harvey con, the fraud victim he characterized as "a vengeful woman" and a hundred other sleazy things. He's earned his sorry lot.

Well, I can't speak to that because I have no idea what to believe about any of it. I do know he was part of that nonsense with his brother-in-law, and in the forums he's a dick. No idea about his dining or casino habits. Both seem a bit revolting to me. From his bankruptcy documents he's sucked money out of any number of people - and that probably only represents a portion of those he's really swindled - but it didn't look like he's living high on the hog based on the reported income.

Jesus, am I defending this guy? Not really intentionally because I find it pleasant, just feel weird about the pile-on. Call it a conversation stirrer. Maybe those nuns tuned me up harder than I remember.

Many of us early in the thread stated if Gene admits his mistakes,comes clean and starts to make amends.We would give him the opportunity to redeem himself.Instead he continues to lie,takes zero responsibility and carries on grifting.He obviously had eyes on this thread and chose to give us the middle finger.He reaps what he sows I'm afraid.
