Thank you for sharing this. It underscores a critical point that I've seen people make elsewhere, which is that anyone responding to Gene Steinberg's pathetic rallying cries to help him "put together the money I need to start getting back to something close to a normal life" are at best enabling him to rip off another landlord in the future. His string of past evictions bears this out, and your comment is additional confirmation.
I found that anecdote both gratifying and distressing. Gratifying in that reading between the lines of Gene's emails scrounging for cash while simultaneously railing against heartless landlords, I had formed the notion he felt paying one's bills was for suckers. The smart thing in his world is to only pay whatever you absolutely must. He plays chicken with landlords and no doubt with other bills and creditors. Good for the folks at the Desert Mirage that they didn't play his game and just booted the Steinbergs post haste.
Then this is distressing, to realize he live his life this way, that he is that much of a sleaze and low level menace. There are worse people, worse injustices but, the guy sucks and I hate that he is whining to good hearted folks for cash while not using whatever cash they give him to address the self-proclaimed emergencies, but instead ripping off his landlords and others. (And of course, he doesn't need anyone's donations to begin with. I mean, Gene Steinberg: we all want more money.)
Again all we can do I think is hope the word spreads. Whatever is broken with Gene Steinberg, there's no fixing it at this point. He is, as he is fond of reminding us, going to be 74 this year, and he's as irresponsible as any just out of high school kid. And more irresponsible than many.
Well hey. I'm sure Gene Steinberg repaid that restaurant that he claims gave him a free pity dinner not so long ago, right? He's not a total moral void who would've neglected to repay a small, local, personal kindness, or, oh I don't know, just made the whole thing up in the first place?
How does this anyone grant this creep a shred of credibility at this point? I'm not sure of much but I got no doubts when it comes to, should I trust or believe Gene Steinberg? Should I support Gene Steinberg? Is Gene Steinberg a good guy?

One would hope that at some point the penny would drop and he would realise that the only people left on his forum are him, Randal and a couple of crazies who seem oblivious to what is going on. Even Randal is only there like a vulture waiting to carry the carcass away from Schemey in the hopes that he can revive it as his own show/forum.

That's the ironic part of what he said. I think Gene is experiencing a fair amount of "turnabout" after all these years as word of his grift spreads. As always he projects on to others what is due to him.

That Gene uses the word "legitimate" without even a trace of irony is quite rich, it's a character attribute entirely absent in his pathetic life. All Gene has done for the last couple of decades - at the least - is rip off landlords, and as has been observed by more than one bystander, at his age, exactly nothing will change in regard to his heinous behavior; we should all take some comfort in the fact that his reach is minimal at best, he can't rip off many people anymore thanks to the profusion of revelatory comments on the Internet - at this point, even a cursory search of his name reveals a wide wake of broken promises, lies, false accusations and demented distortions, with boatloads of facts and documentation attesting to his sleaziness and underhanded techniques of bullshit dispersal. The paranormal sandbox is already marginal, and in the last handful of years, Steinberg has totally squandered any goodwill built up by the four years of my involvement with the show; the decline really started once O'Brien came aboard, but once he ran out of patience with Gene's bullshit and bailed, the downward spiral is now absolute and in freefall acceleration. Gene is barely even phoning it in anymore, he's let a nitwit with socialization problems take over the show, rendering it unlistenable, even for the most bored patrons.

Sarah27, quite a few of us here in the Alien Expanse were banned from the Paracast for speaking out about Steinberg. I can take solace that the truth is out about this lowlife Steinberg. He can no longer scam freely as he once did. Living in a motel is a just reward for that scumbag.

Commenting on your email, "turnabout is fair play" he says, so I wonder what sort of crazy scheme he's cooking up then...BTW Gene, no one was "poached" from paracast, you ran people off, reading PMs, editing posts you don't agree with, closing threads you don't agree with, etcetera, etcetera...Alien Expanse is an open and free forum, and offered an alternative to the hatred, ignorance, and arrogance you routinely display...You destroyed your reputation and your forum, no one else...
If Gene's truth was any different than what's posted in this thread, on UFO trail blog, or at SchemeGeneRC twitter, then Gene should start a thread on his empty forum and lay it all out for everyone to clearly read, after all he has made his personal life public through his relentless abnormal begging and schemes, so why not post his 'truths'...

It's one thing to trust or believe Gene Steinberg without knowing of Gene's rotten ways. It's a whole other to go through whatever mind bending justifications that smug twat must, in the face of all that's been rubbed in his face about Gene Steinberg.
J. Randall Murphy claimed at one point this was his way of trying to help Gene and steer him in a better direction and I thought well, he seems a bit off himself, maybe he does believe that. The mountain of evidence against Gene though, I don't see any longer how he can dismiss it or rationalize it away, and blame Gene's critics instead. It's like he stubbornly clings to what he already decided is correct, because you know, he's the independent thinker with an open mind.

The funniest part is where he says that nobody should criticise Gene unless they have solutions to his problems.
- So according to Randal when someone is scamming and robbing people it is up to everyone else (including their victims) to help them sort out their problems.
It is the most bizarre displacement of blame I have ever come across. He's basically saying that Gene is not at fault, instead it is all the people who are calling him out who are responsible for his actions.
Not only that it ignores the fact that many of us have tried to make suggestions to Gene to improve his finances and every time he has ignored them or indeed mocked them with various lame excuses.
Gene doesn't want any advice, he doesn't want any help, he just wants money and he will swindle anyone to get it but according to Randal that is our fault because we haven't offered him an alternative solution.
Randal also gives the same kind of excuse when people criticise the crappy quality of the Paracast or the state of the forums now.
It is all the fault of the people complaining because they didn't offer a solution (even though quite often they did - he conveniently ignores that).
Tell that to someone being robbed or scammed in future, Randalbot. I'm sure they will understand how they are responsible for the actions of the person ripping them off.
Overall this kind of thinking has to be the most bizarre form of mental contortion I have ever seen from anyone. There is really no good way to look at it, either he is just as dishonest/crooked as Schemey or his brain is completely broken.

Although he will never admit it, I am sure that Murphy hopes that Steinberg stumbles in some manner and the Paracast falls into his lap. Of course the Paracast isn’t worth a thing these days, but Murphy probably thinks he can turn things around under his great stewardship. That is how out of touch these two knuckleheads are.
