Patriots fans burn team jerseys after players take a knee during National Anthem

What does taking a knee mean anyway? What are they trying to say?
My understanding is it's about minority issues.....that people of color aren't treated well in many ways under the land of the free and home of the brave. They used this venue to make a point.

Interesting.... These players have what many consider the best job in the world... And they want to use it as a venue to say they didn't get a fair deal?

America voted for a black President...

The so called 'Slavery Statues'are removed... Anything with 'Lee' was changed...

Minorities get reduced rate business loans and tax breaks...

And they are still saying that they are not being treated fairly...
It is starting to sound whiney and spoiled...

Kind of loses its meaning when those kneeling are multi million dollar earning football players, who the land of the free has treated very well, Dr wu.

I don't disagree that steps have been taken over the years to correct these issues but the fact still remains that many white people don't like people of color...and racism is alive and well in America. That's what the players are allegedly addressing.

The players are taking a knee for the people who cannot be heard. The players are making it a spotlight. People that say racism isn't happening just need to open their eyes. It's happening and always has been. Just so you know I do not support the terrorist organization BLM. But I know where the players are coming from. Difference is BLM violently gets there point across as with the NFL players are peacefully getting there point across.

Well.....while it is true that pro athletes are paid well and 'treated well' for the most part this is certainly not the case for other people of color....out in the general public and that is what is being addressed.

If it is, I dont see it... I work in an office that is 75 percent non white and we all get along well, go to lunch together and laugh, play together...
If there is a divide, It seems more imaginary than real to me...

I am sure there is always one somewhere that wants to keep a dividing line... But Not in my bubble.

My philosophy is that I see people, I don't see color. I dont understand why people cant run with this general concept. World would be a better place.

To me it sounds like you are definitely in a bubble because it just isn't that way in real life.....

Might I add that many black people do not like white people, racism is alive and well in the black community too but the thinking is prevalent that black people cannot be racist...How convenient...

It would also be interesting to know how much of the millions upon millions of dollars that the black football players who have been 'protesting' that they have personally given to the black communities to help balance this alleged atrocity...

There's no question that some blacks don't like whites ( and one wonders why that is btw...?)....but whites aren't ostracized in society for the most part as blacks have been for a long time. Anyone who doesn't see this has a mental block imho.

That's a valid separate question ,but it doesn't have anything to do with the issue being discussed....you are aware of that?

It could be argued that racism is a rut perpetuated by people who like to hate, and if it wasn't skin color it would be something else.

Alot of whites dont like other whites and so on...

Any person that continues to operate on the premise that perpetuates a divide is an extreemist and it doesnt matter what color, nationality, or government they are.

You have a singular gift for stating the obvious, which does not diminish my statement in the least...

It has everything to do with their protest, are they doing all they can to help those they protest for?...What they protest obvious does not affect their lives so is it a selfless protest?...If selfless it seems to me giving their money to those who need it will be much more effective than kneeling....

Yet when I state these obvious points it seems many don't get them. ;)
And what statement was that btw...?

IMHO you are wrong but then you probably knew I would say that....they are indeed two different things since the protests are about racial discrimination and not people giving money to poor people....which is another problem entirely, and yes it does affect their lives if they are black. People of color, including famous people , are constantly being discriminated against...it happens everyday. I'm not sure what planet you live on but apparently it ain't earth. ;)
and this is celebs...can you imagine non important black discrimination...

Racial discrimination and poverty doesn't go hand in hand but one can be an excuse to promote the other for political or social agendas...

Fratty and out of touch.
The issue here is not about discrimination. The issue is about free speech and what limits should be placed on it. I'm convinced everyone who has contributed to this thread cares about people and equality.

I've gotten to the point that I only look at Facebook once or twice a week. It's been months since I posted anything on my newsfeed. I just peeked at my account. The newsfeed is already clogged with people posting comments about why they support gun control or why they support gun rights. They haven't even buried the bodies yet from the Las Vegas massacre! Can't people just respect the solemnity of the tragedy and take a collective breather from the debates and the vitriol?

The in-your-face attitude of so many people today with their political views is what's grinding my gears.
