Well, my sister found one of her cats dead today. He had been missing since sunday. His body was pretty torn up, however that could have been from buzzards or other scavengers. He lived a good life while she had him. If you could, please say a prayer for him. His name was Pancho.

Pie is frighteningly intelligent, easily the smartest dog I have ever had by a long shot. Her vocabulary is impressive - she understands a lot of words. That's not the half of it though.

Our next door neighbor still uses a rake for leaves and he piles them in a big plastic kiddie pool and drags them out back into the woods. Fine by me - I use an electric leaf blower and clear the same size large area in a fraction of the time without effort. I don't care if he wants to make a day of it. but Piedog does. She reserves a peculiar jabberbark for him when he does that, she'll sit looking out the sliding door making weird grumbly noises and crabs at him.

Yesterday on her walk over a mile away we passed him. Done that a million times, she's friendly - but this time she got all flustered and I hear that weird jabberbark. That tells me she's smart enough to know it's him and she's kvetching about the way he collects leaves ! Good Grief, it's sometimes off putting to realize there is a non-human biological entity that's paying quite a lot of attention !

Kobi has a cyst type growth in his mouth near his upper gums that has rapidly enlarged...I didn't know about it until 3 days ago when I was watching him eat...I'm taking him to the veterinarian this morning for the doctor to see him...It's going to have to be cut out, I can't believe how much it's grown in just 3 days...ugh

Sounds like an abscessed tooth. If it's any help what I learned in my microscopically brief stint was that age is far less of a factor for anesthetic than overall body condition. Looks like you've kept him in good shape, with good food and exercise. I saw some real hot messes knocked out for various procedures that you might think were at risk but weren't

It's cancer, a growth above his upper gumline...The vet scheduled the surgery, November 30th at 10:30 am...I'll be taking the day off work to be there, the vet is allowing me to be present through the entire process...Of course I'll be in the other room whilst the actual surgery is taking place, however I'll be with my dog under he goes under and be there for him when he wakes...

Honestly this gave me flashbacks to my last dog who had tumors in his intestines and while having surgery to remove them he died on the operating table...I know this current issue with Kobi isn't the same, at least this growth is outside his body in the skin...

‘A–hole’ 17-pound dog gets new owners after Texas shelter’s hilarious social post: ‘Could take on a Rottweiler and win’

Even “a–hole’s” need a place for Thanksgiving.
A young dog up for adoption in Texas found a fur-ever home less than 8 hours after a shelter’s social media post describing the pup’s unique personality went viral.

“This is Eddie, Eddie is an a–hole,” the Humane Society of Wichita County said on Facebook about the 1-year-old dachshund mix, alongside a poop emoji. “Eddie hates other dogs, he’s 17 pounds and could take on a Rottweiler and win.”

The shelter then went on to allege Eddie wasn’t from Texas and was more like a guy you see walking around NYC.
If Eddie had an accent, he would sound like he’s from the Bronx, wearing a wife beater t-shirt and a tattoo that says MOM on his arm. If you got into a bar fight, Eddie would back you up and take on all 5 guys, put his cigarette out on their forehead and not spilling [sic] a drop of his beer while doing it.

The shelter challenged anyone brave enough to take care of Eddie to do so, as he scares the other dogs inside the facility.
So, if you think you are man enough to adopt him, please be our guest. We want Eddie out of here because he scares our big dogs.

The new information on Eddie was a huge contrast to what the shelter originally said about the pooch according to an older adoption flier posted back in October.

“This Dachshund mix is Eddie! He’s around a year old, a little nervous to be in the shelter, but he is very sweet once he makes friends with you!” the Oct. 30 Facebook post read. “He’s very mild-mannered and we can’t wait to get him into a good home.”
The new, unusual marketing ploy worked, as only eight hours after the original post showcasing Eddie, the temperamental dog he was adopted by a family who said they had fallen in love with him.

“Very happy to say, our ‘a–hole’ dog has found his forever home! As long as they keep his cigarettes and beer well stocked and keep him away from bulldogs eyeing him up across the courtyard (although I’m pretty sure he could easily whoop ’em), he’s going to be just fine!” the new owner said.

“We just live in Eddie’s world,” Brooks told FOX 4.
Eddie's new owners say they have received so much attention since the adoption, they set up a Facebook page for the dog, aptly titled Ahole Eddie, that has garnered over 33,000 followers. 5

I was wondering and Thank God he'll be OK. Nerve wracking.

Pie just had her exam. The vet said she'd take her for 6 but she's 9+. She is getting a tad stiff in the rear and has a cracked tooth that will eventually require dental surgery and that's why I mentioned the anesthetic. In the past I have been very concerned about giving any at all to my critters especially not an old one but since learned that it has more to do with body condition than numerical age. Like us I suppose.

I'm hoping he will be okay after this, I can only assume but I'm optimistic...Tomorrow morning at 10:30 am we will be heading to the vet for this surgery...They have to do some more blood work to be sure his liver and kidneys can handle the anesthesia...If not I don't know what the other options are...Kobi is 12 years old but very healthy and fit...His hips stiffen up sometimes but other than that he's in good health...

How’s Kobi?
He's going to be fine, I carried him to the car and into the house, he's still groggy from the anesthesia and they shot him up good with pain medication...It was a large growth, they will check it in the lab to see what it is...He's laying on his bed at my feet right now resting...It took the doctor just over an hour to finish up, then we sat with Kobi for another 45 minutes when he woke up...Glad I was there, he was delusional and upset when he first woke but got calm after smelling my presence next to him...Glad that's all done now, just the healing part now to watch...

Rough day yesterday, poor lad. Maybe you could throw a steak in the blender for him :)

How long do you have to wait for the report?

nivek

As Above So Below
I'm not sure how long for the lab report to be completed, I'll ask when I call them next week...

His face is a bit swelled on that side, expected though given the work done there...Starting his medication today that was given by the doctor, I do expect the swelling to go down in the next few days, maybe not completely but by next weekend I think it should be down closer to normal, just worry about infection...

I'm feeding him soft foods and small portions at a time so he doesn't put a lot in his mouth at once...

I wonder if he would lap up a steak shake lol, he did get a couple Vienna sausages, chopped up small, as a treat, since all his dog treats are too hard for him to eat right now...So I bought a few tins of Vienna sausages for treats...

I was a little concerned about the swelling, so I took him to the vet this morning for a quick follow-up...The doctor came out to the car because I didn't want kobi to stress out by going back in the vet office so soon after having surgery there...The doctor said his jaw looks fine, no indication of any infection and the inflammation hasn't swelled up any more than yesterday...Its just going to take time to heal...He has some difficulty eating, I'm feeding him small portions at a time of soft foods so he doesn't have to chew much...

I never used to let my dogs on the couch, now Pie sits with us every night. Never wanted my cats on the kitchen table as it revolted me, now I sit and have coffee with Frank every morning. Not a bad way to start your day, read the papers, drink coffee and a purring cat.

Since that became a recent habit another seems to have developed. We leave a small notepad on the table, Mrs.Pf usually has a grocery list going. Frank has decided that is delicious, he'll sit there and get all drooly and spitty and lick the ink until he's ruined the list. I've heard when kids eat cigarette butts and other weird stuff it means a vitamin deficiency and can't help but wonder what this means. Well, it means move the pad and also that he's a cat which is sufficient reason for them to do virtually anything.
