I don't want to make this a long explanation thing, My stepdaughter comes home from some barbecue she went to with her mom and tells me when she gets home that some french teacher at school told her she was the most antisocial person she has ever met. Now Sam and Jordan take this as almost a compliment Because Jordan is going through her Goth phase.

I, however, have mixed feelings about this, Firstly, Why should any Teacher ever tell a student they are Antisocial? Secondly, Sam and Jordan aren't taking the definition of what Antisocial really is into context, That that it as a person who just doesn't want to be social, But Antisocial is the word the French teacher used. This french teacher is a Language Arts teacher, No one can convince me she used the word off the cuff not knowing the literal definition of its use.

Truly antisocial people are borderline psychopaths they are dangerous people, The reason this upsets me is her teacher says this in front of her class and other students. This is applying a possibly dangerous and lasting label to someone publicly.

I feel this thing that Jordan and Sam take so light-heartedly was out of place and uncalled for and the woman needs to maybe watch her damned mouth. Perhaps I'm taking things out of context, But, I don't feel I am.
What do you guys think? How would you feel/respond if some teacher told your child they are Antisocial in front of their class?

I'll get over this, but I feel my anger is justified.

I would talk to the teacher or the school about it. It is a term to be taken lightly and even if it was meant in a more colloquial sense, it is not something that should be said to a student - either privately or in front of a class.

I will attempt to speak to her about it privately, The thing is the psychological implications about this are staggering, I mean, I don't want to cause tensions between Jordan and her French teacher, But I do want to make sure this doesn't happen again though.

    I don’t know.... Stuff happens....

I had really chapped lips one day, the girl seated next to me noticed and held up a chapstick, and said, come here.... she applied it to my lips for me.... but I fell for a joke. She was a friend after all, and I trusted her, but with slight of hand, she put pink lipstick on me.....

The Math teacher walked in and said who are you? I said, “Same old me.”

He said, “come up here...”. So I stood at the board thinking he was going to give me a math problem.

    “Turn around, face the class...”

he then introduced me as “Boy George, everybody.”

Class laughed, then I wiped my lip, saw the pink on my finger, and said to the girl, “Do you really want to hurt me?” Everybody laughed... I thought it was a good day, but I didn’t tell my parents... because I didn’t want them to get the wrong idea. Parents tend to worry too much. If my parents had of made a big deal about it, I might have been scarred from that, but I have always looked back on it as fun day at school. Never did get the girl back, but I did ask her to the school dance. Hehe.

Teachers are human... they build raport... they say stuff... they get jibes from kids, and they return the favors.... it’s life, man.., don’t over react.

And Goth is the embodiment of an antisocial statement. So embrace goth, and embrace the fact that your daughter invited that comment. Nothing wrong with getting what she wants from her gratis persona.

That's what I was needing, to know if I was overreacting, I do sometimes, And I can't recognize that I am, Thanks, brother. How I wish I could just tone myself down some, I try, But the person in me is prone to overreact. Perhaps the best way to handle this is to simply let it be, I mean Jordan wasn't offended, neither was Sam, So, maybe I should just let sleeping beasts be.

I think it was wrong for the teacher to do that in front of the class. It would also be wrong in a private conversation.

Thank you brother, So, possibly I wasn't overreacting, I tried to explain to Sam why I was so upset, I told her, in the circles, I hang around online, That most people would take the word antisocial for its literal definition, Just as I would.
The thing that really irritates me about it is This was a French teacher, Her deal is she's into other languages, So, She did know the medical definition of antisocial when she said it.

I haven't decided how I am going to handle this, Jordan is doing fantastic in French, It's her favorite class, and school is so close to ending for summer break. I'm not certain what I should do or how I should handle this.

I don't think it's a negative word if you look at the second definition. Would introvert be a better word?

well, that's why I and Jordan click, It's weird, I've never met anyone else mentally exactly like me,
Whatever is going on inside my mind, she has it too, we click. So yes, shes terribly introverted brother. It's strange, I've never met in my whole life someone like me, But my stepdaughter is. Most people think she is my legitimate daughter, she even looks a lot like she could be.

I'm very protective of her :)

Don"t forget to trust Jordan to know how to handle these things in her own way... Jordan is probably very capable of dealing with the situation in a way that will work for her and her teacher. Tell her you are there if she needs you, and you trust that she is good enough to keep it all in perspective.

True, She is pretty level headed, And to boot that, She mostly took the whole thing as a compliment.

    So there is that.
