Whats a cord ? I have firewood here but we call it by weight, a ton.
A pile about 4x4x8. No idea why, or why dirt is delivered in yards or why land is measured in acres. But we're Americans dammit, we don't have to conform to common sense measurements.
Actually, when I bought my house in 97 it had a big cast iron wood stove in the basement and the whole property was terribly overgrown. This is a suburban neighborhood and we don't have centralized sewer so everybody has a septic system with a leech field. As disgusting as that sounds it's unnoticeable if working. It wasn't, but after I dropped who knows how many trees and let the sun in it did again - saving me a boatload of $$. So I cut, split and stacked all that free fuel and continued to do so over time. Heated my home with it for 10-12 years. I lost count of how many I dropped but at least a dozen were the really, really big boys. Talk about adrenaline. Messy, lots of work. Up cleaning the chimney three times a season. In 2012 I finished the basement, sealed up the vent pipe and sold the woodstove. Now I just push the magic button on the wall when I want heat.
So, to whack up a little pile for my friend, easy peasy. All that wood in my truck, jeans, dirt, flannel, axes. Arrrrgh. Lots of testosterone ..... should be a Skoal (yeeech - chewing tobacco) commercial.
