There is a woman on twitter, She was a somewhat active even a loyal follower, She even when I was sick wished me well every day, That's why I'm conflicted about this.
She seemed like a decent person, Until the other night, She made a post, Which was politically charged, But she went on this rant about how She believes all Americans are dimwitted Fat lazy shallow cowards, She defended her points by saying, It's her free will to believe whatever she wants and no one had the right to demand an explanation from her.
Irked, I told her, Personal opinion is one thing, But to insult an entire nation of people, every last person, wasn't far removed from racism or fascism, That it was just pure ignorance.
She, of course, was terribly offended and didn't really expect that kind of reply from me. I find myself questioning a lot of things, Like, Was I too harsh with her, I mean she is entitled to her opinions even if they are offensive. I wasn't just cruel or mean to her, I said it just as I typed it here.
The problem is, I'm not a perfect person, But when people judge an entire culture of people based on nationality like that, in vast swaths, It really does feel like Racism or fascism to me.
did I overreact when I could have just ignored her? or did this woman deserve to have someone say hey, This isn't 1825 stop being ignorant.
Conflicted about the whole issue.
You told the truth, and that's not something you should ever feel bad about. To condemn everybody of any given nationality, or creed, or race, or class, or whatever, is ignorance - plain and simple. If that's all you said, and you weren't personally abusive about it, then you're good: all you told her was the truth, and everybody needs more of that, not less of it.
I understand her point. It's sickening and infuriating that our nation had become this absurdly corrupt, and yet we as a nation are not revolting in the streets by the millions. We should be in revolt right now. We should've been in revolt for many years now actually - if not when Bill Clinton abolished the Glass-Steagall Act and then passed the Telecommunications Act of 1996, then when George Bush lied us into an illegal invasion of Iraq that left over a million people dead and a raging dumpster fire of murder and mayhem burning all across the Mideast. And if not then, when Barack Obama let millions of good hard-working citizens like my sister lose their homes while he funneled trillions of dollars to his sociopathic Wall Street campaign donors after they crippled the global economy through fraud and treachery. We have too many good reasons to revolt, and too few reasons to stay at home surfing on facebook instead of taking to the streets to fight for justice and the American way.
But it's wrong to condemn everyone in the country. Many of us are in revolt, and for good reasons. But more of us need to be in revolt - the streets should filled with outraged citizens. The plutocrats have seized complete control of our nation, and our leaders have killed countless people and displaced millions more, all based on lies like the fake WMD propaganda that got us into Iraq, which set the entire Mideast on fire.
She has a point, but she went too far with it. You were right to point out that her position is in the same category as other forms of ignorance.
I take a sharp turn when I run into the hard left. They are the worst. I try to stay in the middle and I get the far right hate but the hard left are something else. I'd of overreacted far worse. I say you are good, I am not the right person to be getting such advice from though, to be fair.
You're as wrong as she was - to condemn an entire wing of political persuasion is also ignorance. I'm farther left than most people - certainly far left of most Democrats...who are willing to flirt with WWIII over a fake RussiaGate narrative just to avoid taking the blame for rigging their own primary. I want the American people to have a voice in their own government again; I want an end to the mass murder operations abroad and our soldiers back home with their families; and I want middle America to thrive again so people can have happy and healthy families and a future that isn't dismal and hopeless. I don't give a shit which direction anyone swings politically; everyone deserves a better shake than they're getting from this totally corrupt government that's run by two totally corrupt political parties.
Thank you,
I'm not big on politics either, I like to stay in the middle and let others think and support what they will. But I agree, people that take really hard radical political views are kind of extremists and that's never a good thing.
The British called the founding fathers extremists for revolting against an insanely oppressive royal dynasty - was that not a good thing? Of course it was. Sometimes you have to stand up and fight when the powerful have their boot on your neck, and your kids will never know freedom if you don't stand up and fight for it. Context matters.
If I visited Europe then France would be at the bottom of my list if countries to visit...Just saying...
...
Don't be as bad as that woman and condemn the French people because one French woman crossed the line.
The core principles of our Constitution were born in France. The French have been among our very closest allies for centuries, and for good reasons: we share a very similar love of egalitarian populism and freedom and justice. The French are a strong and proud people. They don't ask for a voice in their government - they demand it. They protest at the drop of a hat because that's how things get done. When their own plutocrats went too far with classism and oppression, and left them no alternative but a violent insurrection, they rose up and took their heads. And then they invented the modern republic, which our nation is founded upon.
Don't make enemies with your friends - the French people want the same things that we do, like a government that represents the common citizen and not just the billionaires. And in many respects, they fight harder for it than we do. We owe them a debt of gratitude for showing us the way forward. And for giving us the Statue of Liberty. And for a million other amazing things as well.
The modern crisis is profound and global. We need to build bridges and win allies if we're going to have a fighting chance to prevail against the darkness that is now upon us all.
