look i ain't going to thrown him in the trash just due to his association with this notorious character

So what would it take? Does he need to become a regular co-host? Does he need to start scamming himself? For me giving tacit approval to a scammer is almost as bad as being a scammer yourself. I wonder if you would feel the same if you didn't like his articles? Do you give Randall the same benefit?

Also I don't mean it to look like I'm telling you off or telling you what to do or not - that's not my intention. I think RPJ is otherwise a good guy. I just get frustrated with people ignoring bad behaviour in the UFO community. Anyway our discussion is not going to change things I suppose.

I seem to remember one particular wealthy listener who wanted to help Gene out asking how much Gene would need to get things in order.

Gene generated a magic figure of $200k based on the fake loan he made to Bezier, but he not only wanted that he wanted extra on top of it equivalent to he interest it would generate if that money had been in a savings account.

I think the figure he came up with was $230K (but I may be mistaken)!

If we even put aside the lie that Gene ever had 200k (he didn't, he has only ever been in debt) what kind of sleazebag asks a donor for interest when they are begging for money?

If anyone has the screenshots or links to the conversation I would love to see it again - it is a really good illustration of his character.

It is hard to believe even Gene as the king of entitlement would behave like this but he did.

I am pretty sure Black Angus on this very thread told that story. He was relating conversations with Gene about purchasing the Paracast. He had also (iirc) ruffled Gene's few remaining feathers by suggesting Gene should be looking into moving into a nursing home or some sort of senior care facility. So I think it's likely Gene was to some extent just getting shitty with him.

But yes, Gene wanted $200K+. He wanted to be made whole with respect to the money he claims he lent to the Beizers, and talked about how such funds should be sufficient for him to revenge himself on his online detractors (I think this may have been around a time when he was blustering about legal action against them) and then he and Barbara to live out their remaining days in the style to which they feel entitled.

It truly strains the brain to imagine that Gene ever had $200K to lend anyone, or that if he'd had it but had not lent it, he would've kept that amount of money saved and managed it wisely. Then if he did lend out $200K, whatever money he raised for the Beizers must've been on top of that, right? So how substantial was the Beizer legal defense fund? Given the outcome of the trial didn't seem like anything special, I'm skeptical it cost $200K to defend but, I am not an expert in that area (thankfully).

This does remind me though of his story of how his financial woes began features the claim that he helped out Beizer financially because he was family and it was the right thing to do, and he expected to be paid back with interest once the fictitious Beizer lawsuit was settled. Yes lending the money was not an unkind act (if it happened) but if you lend money expecting to be paid back with interest, I mean, it's not like you're being 100% altruistic.

OK wait here you go; it wasn't about buying the Paracast, it was straight up asking for money:

Gene Steinberg's Financial Shenanigans @ Paracast forums

and indeed it is in the context of Gene being irritated about being told to go to a nursing home, despite that he was threatening in his emails he might have to just give it all up and go to a nursing home. As if he needs to be in one or could afford it. He does need a caretaker of some sort though, if one is to believe the broad details from his emails (that he's been living in motel rooms for months, not paying his bills, manages his money so poorly, etc.).

Once you try and get into an assisted living community, the first thing they want is your Social Security money. That is if you don't have funds to cover the monthly tab.

Steinberg probably knows that fact and would never turn over those funds. That is probably his "fun money". He is delusional enough to think someone would write him a check for $200k. If he ever got hold of such an amount, you could count on it being pissed away in short order.

Thanks for finding it! Wow so he wanted $267k to make up for inflation. The funny thing is it seems he thought he was going to get it.

Gene's words from Blackangus' post:

You told me you are very rich, so this shouldn’t be much of a deal. The $200,000 I gave Stephen through 2004 is, today, worth $267,524.69. If you send me that amount, I’ll be able to supplement my income and have a life for a number of years for myself and Barbara. We won’t have to ask for donations, and I’ll have the resources to deal with the stalkers who are left.
How about it?
Then I can go to the nursing home when I’m good and ready

That's why he also refuses to get any govt. or local authority help. They likely want to see you accounts to see if you qualify. Gene doesn't want to give up any money or let anyone see how much he has.

Accountability is very low on Steinberg's list as you can imagine. That is why no one will ever buy his worthless websites. Anyone who has an ounce of sense wants to see the financial books. Steinberg will never allow such a thing to happen.

The websites are worthless in and of themselves. They really provide Steinberg a list of people with which he can beg money from. I've noticed that he has dropped any talk of selling them as of late. God only knows what sort of ridiculous price he would be asking.

Those sites really have no value to anyone but Gene. A while back, the Paracast was a going concern and still had a decent reputation. When O'Brien finally got fed up and bailed, it all went down the shitter. That's why the forum is now a weedpatch. It's interesting to think what the Parakeet might be like now if Gene had been able to stop panhandling five years ago. He really did have a good thing going, in spite of his participation in the podcasts. Then he managed to turn it into a turd.

As far as I know, I'm not in the same business as any of Gene's guests. There are suppliers I won't deal with, contractors I won't touch with a stick, and potential customers I want nothing to do with. If I had books or movies or even just ideas to push, I would not be going on a podcast with a known sleazebag. If I need the "exposure" that bad, I'm in the wrong business.

no begging blast today! wow..
I think you spoke too soon - was about to go to bed and found this gem in my inbox:

Another Friday Update!
Hello,

With the first day of November, hotels and motels began to boost their prices in this area in anticipation of the holiday season.

So we found a cheaper motel. It’s barely adequate, with running water for baths and showers that’s barely warm, let alone hot. But the TV and Internet are decent, and the air conditioning system works.

I’m trying to raise money to extend our stay.

The billing department at the storage facility called me yesterday and said pay up.

Tonight, I have to go out and buy some groceries so we have dinner.

I hope you can help me some to cover the costs.

Here’s how you can help me today:

The best way is via PayPal. Please go to: Send Money, Pay Online or Set Up a Merchant Account - PayPal, login and use the Send to friends and family option. Enter my email address, gene@technightowl.com, and click or tap Next to continue the transaction.

Anders, our webmaster, has encountered some glitches with the Paracast site update, and he's backed up with unexpected client work. So it'll take longer to get the new site and online store operational.

If you have any questions about my living situation, please let me know.

Thanks again for whatever you can do.

Peace,
Gene
