The cat I had in college didn't have hardly any teeth from a young age and still lived to be around 15. Eating and even killing mice was never a problem for her. I think alot of things pushed by vet's offices are just upsells with limited benefit. I'm really tired of them pushing me to buy hundreds of dollars in flea control stuff when my pets rarely have fleas. Even when they do, a $10.00 flea collar takes care of it. I do understand why they do it though, given that I used to be a mechanic. Actual needed repairs really are not that profitable, and upsells provide alot of cushion. I don't agree with it, but I do understand why it happens.
