Lol if you go the Tech Night Owl Live homepage (whose layout is so bad that it makes an average Geocities page from the early 2000s look like a masterpiece) there is this little nugget for those mentally deranged people who might still want to advertise on the Schemey One's Garbage Tech Show:

Screenshot 2018-10-16 20.19.09.png

I suppose the best way to describe this is false advertising to sell advertising:

Growing audience of loyal listeners = a handful of people that Gene knows, growing ever smaller

Number of affordable ad packages = overpriced joke for something that may actually harm your brand

Great return on your investment = flushing your money down the toilet will pay off better

How the Tech Night Owl can grow your business = associate with a homeless grifter who begs for a living and see your credibility burn

Yeah, because that's how it works; not. Say for example you were thinking about buying survival equipment/freeze dried food....you'd Google it, do some research, make a decision & push the button. NOBODY is going to say to themselves "I think I'm interested in some survival gear. Let me see if I can find an internet radio show and then once I do, listen to it with a piece of paper & pen handy & cross my fingers that a company that sells survival gear has an ad on the show."

Radio ads typically work like this; say everyday when you are driving to work you hear an ad for "The best & most affordable tire store in the state - guaranteed!" - maybe you've heard the ad everyday for 6 months but you have no need. Well one day you are driving & get a blowout. You get the donut on but now you are in a position to buy; you already know you need a tire, it's just a matter of where are you going to buy it at? You may think to yourself "Hmmm, everyday I hear this ad on the radio for XYZ tire company that offers the best & most affordable tires in the state - let me call them to get a quote" (or maybe you'll just show up at one of their locations). In GENERAL that's how radio advertising works. Again, NOBODY that needs a dentist is going to say "I'm going to turn on the radio and cross my fingers that an ad for a dentist comes on". If you already know you need it, you are going to look for a dentist one of a few different ways & turning on the radio waiting for a dentist ad to come on isn't one of them.

Exactly Gene's garbage isn't on some radio show that you will hear in your car and subconsciously absorb for when you need the information. Gene's non shows appear in obscure places where you would have to go out of your way to hear them.

They have basically zero reach (and that was before Gene's grifting destroyed what little audience they had).

The hilarious thing is that Gene charges the same kind of prices for advertising as my local (regional) radio station - that station has millions of people that listen throughout the day.

You'd have to be crazy to pay those prices for a show that barely anyone listens to. Yet Gene acts like he is broadcasting to an audience that is the equivalent of BBC Radio in the 1930s (when everyone listened to it).

Like someone else said he lives in his own Bizarro world where he and his crappy shows are a really big deal.

if an ad is $1000 who gets the grand? Gene or GCN?

GCN sell their own ads separately. What Gene is selling on the website are his own ads so he gets all the money.

That said, despite Gene claiming he gets nothing from the GCN run ads, I strongly suspect he gets a cut.

There would be little benefit for him being on GCN otherwise. It is not like it is a big radio station and they play his shows at off peak times when even their small audience is unlikely to be listening.

According to this article from last year GCN doesn't even give Alex Jones a cut of it's ad revenue so I'm sure Gene doesn't get any either. What he gets is four minutes per hour to sell his own ads.

I have wondered about that before. Schemey has said many times that all he gets in return for the brain-dead ads GCN slimes the show with is "distribution," which seems like a really bad deal. I suppose he gets to be "on the radio" that way, but what a turd of a network to be connected with. What stupid, depressing, obnoxious ads. If he's lying (Gasp!) and gets some cash from the deal, then that would at least explain why he did it. That might be the bulk of what filled up the Pay Pal hole after his "bogus" chargeback.

Steinberg is a total liar when it comes to the advertising money. He was a prick by not sharing a cut with his co-hosts. I was shocked that they both put up with that BS. Having said that, he brings in much more money than he lets on.

Probably now, with the loss of members he tries to pretend (lies) that he has many more listeners in order to rake in additional cash. You can bet he is working every angle he can. I can only hope that his crap has finally caught up with him and there is less revenue to go to the casino with these days.

Well that makes Gene even more of a moron than I thought. Having GCN onboard makes the show significantly worse from a listening standpoint, harms the credibility and he gets nothing for it. Classic Gene.

The more I learn about Gene the clearer it becomes that he has zero business knowledge or talent though ironically knowing the kind of person he is he probably thinks he is an amazing businessman - all failures are purely down to other people - "haters" sabotaging him.

I think Steinberk would make an excellent case study for the Dunning-Kruger effect:

A cognitive bias in which people of low ability have illusory superiority and mistakenly assess their cognitive ability as greater than it is. The cognitive bias of illusory superiority comes from the inability of low-ability people to recognize their lack of ability. Without the self-awareness of metacognition, low-ability people cannot objectively evaluate their actual competence or incompetence. - from Wikipedia link.

You may not know the name but you have probably come across people who exhibit this a lot. They are often people who are infuriating because they make life hell for everyone else at a workplace.

Sometimes they end up promoted way above their competency for reasons nobody can understand and once there they cause havoc.

If we just consider a few of the things Gene claims to be an expert in but regularly shows he is a complete dufus:

1. Technology - has a tech podcast, writes (or used to) tech books, yet can't seem to do a simple website upgrade without taking months, gets hacked on a regular basis, doesn't understand how twitter works.

2. Law - makes lots of claims in legal situations, BIL did nothing wrong - was targeted by vengeful woman, big settlement coming. Still denies wrongdoing. Thinks begging fraudulently is acceptable (even when using a natural disaster to do it), public records are private information and referring to them is "slander".

3. Finances - had a financial advising company, the same guy who can't pay rent and begs on a daily basis was advising other people on managing money - you couldn't make it up. He can't figure out how a motel works or storage or autopays (the list goes on...) Who the hell would ever get financial advice from him?

4. Writer - the brief snippets of his book I have been subjected to, sound worse than a parody of bad writing. Further a large part of the plot seems to be rip off of more famous sci-fi like Babylon 5 (lucky for him nobody will ever read it). He has absolutely no imagination so it is not really a surprise.

5. Podcast host - Gene likes to call himself a radio host, he isn't. He presents a podcast and he does it BADLY. He hardly ever listens to what the guests say, leads the conversation towards his own pet topics (Ye Olden Days of Ufology, People he knew in Ye Olden Days of Ufology, Supergirl and other trash TV). The best parts of the podcast are when he isn't doing the interview or talking.

6. Actor - He tries to put on the demeanor of a kindly old man but he can't even do that very well. Question him in even the slightest way (no matter how politely) and he shows his true character. Perfectly illustrated by his behaviour on his own forum.

7. Gambler - whilst we don't know if he actually gambles for sure, you can bet that if he does he thinks he is amazing at it and as a result of it he doesn't know when to quit.

8. Other things - I'm sure there are other things too, like someone posted some of his posts from Car forums where he was lecturing people about his motoring expertise and yet probably doesn't even know the basics of how an IC engine works.
