Gene seems to be a totally shameless person. I think this is what lulls people into giving him yet another break because normal folks cannot really conceive that someone would have no problem being arrested for not paying debts repeatedly and living by deception for over a decade. We nice middle class Americans assume that he is one of us and would never do such things as knowingly take on debts (like luxury apartments) knowing he could not afford them. We cannot imagine that someone would appear so refined on the surface yet live on the very edges of society as a life style, a life style based on lying on a routine basis in order to solicit sympathy and money from his presumed peers. Yet he is not our peer. He is not "one of us". He is a criminal and is known as such by our legal system. He has defrauded his landlords routinely for over a decade. He has made a life style out of using people. He has no shame in being on record in court documents as a dead beat and a criminal. We are naive. We simply find it hard to believe. So even when faced with concrete historical records, some of his Paracast sycophants continue to defend him. "Hey, he never defrauded me, so I don't care if he defrauded other people".

Seriously, do you know any inside information? From my point-of-view, we have a couple spots on the internet where people vent about Gene. But does Gene's network (which proudly includes an asshat like Alex Jones in its line-up) care? Do his advertisers care? Do his sycophants care? Nope. I have no illusions that Gene is really being impacted by us. We are simply revealing the truth in case someone wants to 'come into the light'. But that's it. Gene will keep up this behavior and will have the support of the latter groups until he falls over dead. That's just the way the world really works.

As I said earlier,I think Gene has become addicted to this and addictions are horrible for everyone.I take no joy in his or any other human suffering and I hope he and his wife are ultimately ok.

Well, if certain political leaders in Washington DC were to fall, I would literally dance in the street until the neighbors called the cops to taser me and drag me away. However, I do not seek pain and punishment for Gene, just a stop to the solicitation for funds under false pretenses. If Gene's karma caught up with him, I would not dance in the street, but I am sure a lot of people, including me, would feel vindicated that justice was done.

I wonder if Gene legally "owns" the Paracast and could actually sell it as a property to someone else? Just a thought. I am selling odds and ends on eBay. In the last month, I made over $2200 doing this just selling old DVDs, books and CDs. There are ways to drum up cash.

I realize this is a callous post, but if Gene appeared at your door one night and asked if he could stay with you until he gets back on his feet, what would you do? Once he and Barbara were in the house, I doubt they would willingly leave again. But I would let them sleep on the back veranda facing the pool. Since Phoenix has quite balmy weather, they wouldn't be cold and I would leave the fans and mister on. A mister along the veranda lets out a lovely mist that I can scent with eucalyptus or other lovely aromas.

I am not trying to make light of this, just posing one of those moral dilemmas we face from time to time, usually with our relatives rather than a radio personality. We want to be kind but don't want to be taken advantage of. So how are we to be kind without finding a person like Gene becoming a planters wart on our sole and soul? Seriously, how do we react responsibly to people who never take any responsibility for their lives?

To clarify, when I say that I take no joy in anyone's fall, what I mean by "fall" is the entire process of decent from being a happy and honest, productive, compassionate and socially successful human being...into a troubled, or dysfunctional, or morally corrupt, or otherwise unfavorable condition. It saddens me deeply that we can't all sustain that joyful and forthright, noble beneficence of our childhood.

So in my mind those people in Washington (and Wall Street, and the military-industrial-news-media complex, etc) have already fallen because they betray the entire human family every day. So now they have to be stopped/voted-out/arrested/whatever...I too would celebrate the removal of such people from positions of power because they're doing incalculable harm to our civilization and the human future.

But I'll never be happy about their descent into corruption in the first place, when they lost sight of the light within and chose instead to embrace the darkness. Everyone we lose in that manner is partially a failure upon all of our shoulders, and a stain upon our collective humanity.

Maybe I didn't get the whole story. First, you were unjustly banned. That cut you off from your Paracast+ subscription. And when you made Gene aware of this fact, he remedied it pretty fast. Am I missing some key factor? What are you personally so angry about; are you angry about being banned, or ?

That's excellent advice. I've been dreading the process of sorting and dispensing with all the stuff that I have in storage, but I never even thought about selling the useful bits - I could probably make enough money that way to pay for my time going through it all. Grazie.

This is one case where I hate to agree with you but... I am inclined to agree with you.

It's a cumulative unflattering portrait of Gene that has built up for me, over the course of this year as I've paid attention to the online chatter about him. First you have the years of begging. Seems like weird, compulsive behavior and doesn't make me want to donate to him. But hey I'll admit when someone on the Paracast forum said they were going to give him part of their inheritance, I honestly thought well hey, maybe this will finally put an end to the begging, at least for awhile. Of course it was some prank but, I briefly thought something good might be happening in this weird saga. More fool me.

So I couldn't see the begging as a response to a temporary emergency. (Hey, everyone can get in a hole sometimes, right? But Gene seems to maintain a hole.) Then you have the revelations of Steinberg legal troubles going back to the early '90s, which to me suggests that stiffing others is even more of a way of life for the Steinbergs than I had thought. Then I learn Gene was a Usenet crank in the '90s. As a big time Usenet lurker, and someone who worked for an ISP with a news server, this was significant to me - I know that crank type, and it's not a type I care for.

Then we have: the aggressive responses, bullying tone and dishonesty in the face of anyone discussing his behavior; the heavy handed thought police style of moderation on the Paracast forum; and the hyperbole and flat out dishonesty in some of the begging emails. It's just not a pretty picture, and I'm probably forgetting some of the elements. Oh, well, I see now there are some questions as to whether his in-laws lawsuit that supposedly consumed his life savings ever really happened.

And now finally (I suppose) you have the bizarre behavior of begging to get out from under an eviction only to move into an apartment they can't possibly afford.

Sorry to ramble on about it. It just all adds up in an ugly way.

I do not care for the guy at all and would never trust him, but still, of course I don't want to see a 73 year old and his wife and dog living out of their car.

I am angry that this man uses deception as a life style going back into the 90's to get free money from well meaning but naive people who innocently sign up for the Paracast Newsletter. He is taking advantage of the generous nature of others and in the process embittering such people as they realize they have been suckered. So not only is he taking money under false pretenses, but he is damaging the generosity and kindness of these people. I do not like people who toy with other peoples' emotions and scar them in even small ways. If even 1 of Gene's "marks" becomes cynical after realizing what Gene has done to them over time, then he has permanently damaged another person's psyche. Life is a school of hard knocks but we do not need Gene to make it worse simply because he refuses to live responsibly. If you are a pauper, do not try to live as a king. I think most of us learn that by adulthood. We also learn that cheating others (and ending up with an arrest record) is shameful, not just another equal life style choice out of many.

I couldn't personally care less that I was banned from the Paracast forum. I seldom ever read it or participated. But Gene was denying me a service I had already paid for in advance. He cannot get away with taking money (I know of one person who paid for 5 years in advance) and then deleting the account simply because the customer said something that angered Gene. That is not how you do business unless you are Donald Trump, someone Gene loathes.
