I went into town earlier this morning, they are out clearing the roads, the main roads are plowed and went to check on my neighbor who is back in the valley, they got 10 inches of snow, I could drive in to their place, I had to leave my car on the road and walk to their house...I have 8 inches at my house but I shoveled a path to get my car out of the driveway...

You aint kidding brother. We have severe flooding issues in my neck of the woods due to ice jams. I see you are starting to deal with the same problem. It's basically arctic cold, then we get a Great Lake Cutter storm. Warms everything up, melts it, then freezes it. Rinse and repeat. Dangerous weather pattern we are in. I see no signs of it stopping either looking at long range weather forecasts.

Total ice cover GL is 33%.

Record from a couple of years ago is 97%.

The 97% caused a big increase in the lake level.

The weather is doing yeoman's work but needs to step it up.

How does this rank in terms of snowstorms for your area?

Medium for this time of year...We have had worst storms but usually in February...We have had two snow storms too early in the winter, the second one worst than the first...

The two Persimmons seeds I picked in the autumn were both shovels...

PREDICTING WEATHER USING A PERSIMMON SEED

Wait to pick the fruit until it is soft—almost mushy.

Cut open a persimmon seed.

Look at the shape of the kernel inside.
  • If the kernel is spoon-shaped, expect plenty of snow to shovel.
  • If it is fork-shaped, plan on a mild winter with powdery, light snow.
  • If the kernel is knife-shaped, expect frigid winds that will “cut” like a blade.

My grandmother had a persimmon tree in her backyard but I don't remember her telling me about this. Sounds like the kind of weird thing she would know about!
