-Good points here from UFOtrail. Gene is continuing to carry out scams in plain sight due to his own ineptness. Thinking about it more, it must count as some kind of crime to be doing this. Even if he says it is an accident - why does he have the login details for an account under his SIL's name? I can see no legitimate reason for it.

As I understand it, that $2800 is from the bankruptcy docs, and is the total of SS and income from the podcast advertising. The SS total is probably more on the order of $1700 for both checks the Steinbergs get, so something north of $1000 from the websites & shows. That's what Schemey was claiming, though, which is probably low and of course does not include "donations" which, from what can be gleaned from various websites, was quite substantial during that time frame. And that's just the crap we know about.
Any way you slice it, though, they have an income sufficient for any responsible couple to get along on without becoming a pestilence.

I don't think we have enough information to narrow it down much. He would have had to pay some kind of deposit to get moved in, and unless he's far more talented a grifter in person than he is online, some rent would have to have been paid up front. I'm sure there were substantial late fees and other things added in as the deal turned sour. Combine that with the fact that nothing from Griftboy himself can be trusted, and you have another muddle. He's good at obscuring the truth with simultaneous streams of bullshit. What a skillset to be proud of!
Don't mean to pick on you with these two posts. I've been pondering the numbers myself and this is just my two cents. I would not be surprised if the Schemebergs were living in the most expensive pad available at that complex. Their taking advantage of every single amenity and hogging the hot tub is pretty much a given.

I don't think any landlord in their right mind would want to rent out to Schemey no matter how much money he offered to pay upfront - that's assuming they checked up on his history (but as I have said before I think he uses some kind of identity scam to get around this).
You can bet that any check or deposit payment would likely be held up and he would be moved and barricaded in before the landlord realised it bounced. Even if it did magically go through he would find some other way to screw you, like selling all the furniture to claw the money back or squatting for long enough to build up debts greater than the deposit.
As inept as Schemey is in other ways he seems to be really adept at the professional squatting game and has been doing it for years and once he gets in you have to go through court proceedings to get him out.
Unlike a decent regular person who can't pay rent and feels ashamed of it he doesn't voluntarily move out - he forces the landlord to go through the formal eviction process and does everything he can to stay put.
I also wouldn't be surprised if he deliberately trashes the place and steals everything he can before he leaves. Such a fine example of a human being.

As he gets older, less competent and more error prone, I look for more mistakes to reveal even sleazier behavior.

Quite possible. It is also possible he is deliberately using her email address for other scams hence the "mistake" - he just sent it to the wrong begging list.
The more I learn about the Schemey one, the more clear it becomes to me he is a life long scammer.
His scams may be low level and lack finesse but since the vast majority of people are honest (and assume other people are the same) he has been able to keep getting away with it.

But he sent an Email that day and the following day. each Email said he is about to kcked out of his hotel. he has no money. Let us hit pause. so let's say he got around $1700 (my father in law gets 1500 at 70). the hotel is say 70 a night. 400 to 500 will set him till Barbs S.S. hits on the 25th.
now add in ad revenue.
and he can make $200 running uber on a good day. so I'm wondering where the money is going.

For me, everything comes into focus if you consider there is some sort of addiction going on. Whether it is gambling or drugs, his normal money coming in should cover his living expenses. I don’t for a moment believe that Steinberg and his wife are sitting in a motel room 24 hours a day. They need more cash to do things.
He can monitor his thriving businesses from anywhere. I will say that Steinberg must be getting more desperate if he is using his sister-in-law’s email address to solicit funds. Can anyone say “fraud”?
I am thinking that when the story is written about this character, there will be schemes and scams that we couldn’t even dream of.
