Phew, six hours trimming trees, trimming bushes and trimming back wild vegetation from the woods encroaching on my mowing areas and then mowed the grass...That was a workout with the temp at about 86 degrees, 50 percent humidity and full sun...I finished that up and took a cold shower and fixing a late lunch now, I'm hungry!...

I'm pretty scared right now. I have 2 dual hose portable ac units and they work amazingly well. What I am afraid of is if we get those rolling black outs because the grid can't handle the volume of electrical power being put out by all of us.

I lost a neighbor to the heat last week when we had that severe heat dome over the Prairies.

He was a very simple man about my age. He had some type of disability that prevented him from maturing past the age of a 16 year old, maybe even younger. He had an advocate that allocated all his money and checked in on him twice a year. Other than that I have never seen him with a friend or family member. He was completely alone. He seemed to prefer it that way. Although he was friendly with me and once he got started talking to me he wouldn't stop.

His favorite pass time was collecting bottles and cans all around the area. He kept track of every one he found and would tell me how many he found that day, week, month, and his total for the year, including the dollar amount he got for recycling them. They didn't find him until the stink was unbearable in the hallways. :(

No one here seems to know what happened, but I am sure it was most likely heat stroke that took him. He was obsessive about going out collecting everyday.

The weather is still extreme here. Today it was 33C or 91.4F. I would like to purchase some of those mini ac units because if the power goes off I am certainly a goner guys. My heart only works at 50% since I had all those attacks in 2014. The problem is I can't seem to find out if those mini units can remain on their chargers without issue. Because if I can't leave them sitting on the charger fully charged and ready to use, what use are they? How will I charge them once the power goes down?

I originally wanted to purchase a couple of them so that I could use them in the car because I was never able to get the ac fixed in there. Each mini ac unit works up to 10 hours at a time before it needs to be recharged which means I could use one in the front seat and one facing the back to keep the car interior cool whilst I run errands. I can just put them in the trunk when I am not in the car and bring them back to my apartment to recharge each time. But what about if we have rolling black outs?

Those little units don't sound very appealing. Is there some place you can get to if the power is out that has AC ? Call 911 if it's that serious, please.

A friend of mine has a beach cruiser bicycle that he put a 49cc 2 stroke engine on, but he is not mechanically inclined at all. For the longest time he had a intake leak and didnt have any throttle response and it wouldnt idle right. I finally got him to fix the intake leak and set the idle and metering rod setting. He said it ran like a dirt bike and it halled ass, for a 1/4 mile than he blew it. So we got the head and cylinder off and the pistons rings were broke. So i ordered him two sets of rings and he paid me back for them. i had him watch a vid on how to reassemble the rings and all the that. what does he do he breaks one of the rings and only ends up with one on it and still couldnt get the cylinder on proper, I dont know how the hell he did what he did , but he said he had it so far and it would go the rest the way so he just bolted it tight and wondered why it was locked up, jeez. really. so yesterday we tryed to get it back apart and the piston is stuck at the bottom of the cylinder, its almost coming out but even after blocks and hammers its still stuck. I had been letting him do it all mostly, its his bike, he needs to learn, If it comes apart he still has another set of rings if it is not messed up beyond use. I had though of useing a brake cylinder hone on it.but now its like just buy a new one dude.

Just finished up a big project I've had on the back burner for some time...Ran new wire through my entire workshop taking out all the wire I had there previously...Spend about 12 hours yesterday and a few hours this morning and I'm quite pleased with the finished work...Fortunately I've had all the wire and materials for a couple years now or else I would be paying out the arse for it with prices so high on everything these days...All the inside wiring is now 14 gauge solid wire and installed a new breaker panel, previously there was a mix of 14 and 16 gauge strnaded wire and with various additions and patches as my needs changed...Now everything is uniform with solid 14 gauge to every outlet and light fixture and everything is to code...

Good thing you had the materials already - in the last few months prices of wire, cable, plastic boxes, pipe have virtually doubled and supply is erratic. Heard it had to do with the Big Freeze that Teas had that wiped out it's privatized and un-winterized power grid. Who knows.

at least toilet paper isn't a problem anymore.

Back in May I bought 3 rolls of deer netting to go around my garden, the rolls were 3ft x 50ft each at a price of 10 dollars each...Last week I looked at the price to buy more for next year, the price last week was 15 dollars a roll...I just looked again at the price, now its 19 dollars a roll...Unbelievable...

If only we could just print an endless supply of money and run the credit cards up to the moon with no intention of paying them off.

Hey, wait a minute ……

It's been an year if growth for Ian with the south side sluggers. After a slow start he settled in. Not great but good at 8 and 4 the sluggers are tied with the west side wildcats for 1st. Last night in the 3rd with two in he hit a no doubt about it home run. Later a double as well. A good night for Ian. The sluggers won 11_4 one game with the wildcats left in the regular season then playoffs!

The garden is doing well, we've been getting about three days of rain each week in July, which is as unusual as the cooler temps have been, a high today of only 76 degrees, in the middle of July! lol...Anyway, the beans are spent, but there's bunches of tomatoes growing, still green yet and the corn will be ready to pick in about a week...Also there's two big watermelons growing amongst a bunch of little ones, the watermelon vines are spreading out fast loving the rains...It rained all day yesterday and all night last night, it finally stopped about 30 minutes ago, not a big downpour but its been a steady soaker rain all morning until this break...More coming this afternoon...

The smoke is so thick here from the wildfires. I thought it was cloud cover when I first awoke. We are having a drought and I was happy/relieved that the farmers were going to get some rain. Turned out it's just smoke so thick that it blocks out the sun. :(

Went through our PCs and did basic maintenance and cleanup. Have to revisit your backup strategies, hardware and all that every so often. The idea of keeping local copies and working offline is getting a bit dated.

We used to keep these big round aluminum plates maybe 6" in diameter out of disc drives. Danray CBX systems from the late 70s, early 80s. I remember several big platters like a giant record player and it was maybe 1MB total. There was a jack on a rolling platform that had to be used to install it. That was my role at the time - to move heavy stuff. When the drives got scrapped we used to hang those hubs up in a quarry and shoot the hell out of them because they made a cool boiingy noise.

Now I have an external USB 2 TB drive smaller than my iPhone that I got for like, $50. Amazing. Probably not quite so bullet resistant.

Well, this is one of .... those .... questions but I was curious. Is this a place with facilities or you out there in the breeze?
I'm out in nature and have to do things in the breeze...I don't camp at places that have facilities close by, that means people will be around and that's who I don't want around me when camping lol...I'm in a national forest this time but on the primitive camping area I haven't been to in many years...They do have designated campsites with a carved out spot to burn a fire but that's it, the rest you're on your own and the sites are spread out a generously good distance apart...As far as I can tell I'm the only one here, the last person I saw was the Ranger yesterday to get the permit and let them know I'm out here...

Today's agenda is to relocate two natural springs that I've gotten water from before, but again that's been many years ago...I'm not sure the springs are still active and I'm not sure the exact location but I do remember the starting point and natural markers that pointed me in the right direction...I'm taking my GPS with me, an old Magellan GPS device so I can get coordinates when I find the springs again...

Went out towards one of the springs, or at least where I thought it might be, and after hiking a while I had to stop...Keeping in mind I'm not hiking on any beaten trails, I'm out in the raw woods and stopped because I could smell a bear up ahead...I'm downwind fortunately so I doubt it knew kobi and I were close by but its an unmistakable smell, not dung but the musky smell of a bear and it was up ahead...Kobi didn't make a sound either and he acted a bit nervous, he was all too happy when we turned around and went back the way we came...So maybe tomorrow I'll go back to that area, we're back at the campsite eating lunch now...
