Weird! I have asked to be banned from that site and am; dunno why you would be, Pigfarmer.. I think they were undergoing site maintenance for a bit.

Just checked for the hell of it and am still banned. I suppose I could have at some point but honestly can't remember every going there. The Paracast forum yes, this other thing I don't think I ever heard of, no. Honestly they're probably quite safe from me anyway.

It's probably a glitch. Who wouldn't want you for a site member. If you would like, I can check into it for you?

Not right now but thank you. Truthfully I did have a peek after I noodled around with some vpn settings. Looks cool, maybe one day. AE is whetting my whistle and I'd feel like I'm cheating on it ..... :)

I occasionally use a VPN and turns out that's been the problem. I was doing other things this morning and they weren't quite right either. Frankly, use of the damned VPN has been more of a hassle than not for all the benefit it is to me. Something to consider if pages aren't loading right or display some odd quirk.

Some forums do not allow VPN usage nor Proxy usage either, I don't allow proxy servers however I do allow VPN connections to our forum...I know its commonplace for VPN usage in private computers and mobile devices and its not a security threat IMO...Proxies are a bit different and can be troublesome...I don't know if the Fortean forum blocks VPNs...I rarely use them personally, unless I'm downloading something and want to remain somewhat anonymous...

I rarely use them
.....unless you were just screwing around with the features in your AV package and just forgot about it ........ I'm not doing anything I am worried about a VPN for. Most of us aren't, features like that have more utility as feel-good than do-good.

Actually, it was useful in one way. Some time ago I had legacy cablevision email accounts. I started playing around with a vpn just out of curiosity and having left my nice, safe home neighborhood so to speak I suddenly had those accounts compromised. With the email client I use optimum was sending passwords in clear text - hell I deserve to be compromised for that. The vpn revealed that crap which was instantly terminated.

Soooooo… about noon yesterday on a drizzly cold grey Tuesday about noon I was in the city of Poughkeepsie - the jewel of the Hudson (not) - right near Marist college. Big tall young thin pale feller walking on the sidewalk as I drove past. He had on a 19th century suit complete with tophat, billowing black cloak and a walking stick. Looked like real, expensive clothes not just a costume.

WTF ? Locally there are those saying it’s supernatural, that he’s Thanatos personified. Uh huh. Maybe. Definitely an attention getter. College kid, maybe he’s in a play somewhere. Got a Jack the Ripper vibe for sure, looks cool.

When I hit Lotto I’ll be contacting Bill Munns for my bespoke Sasquatch suit.

Any ideas in what did this to my tree. It goes pretty high as seen in one pic at the very top of pic. Looks like scratches from finger nails.

New visual epoch for me. :cute: Almost my whole life I've worn glasses. This involved wearing them during all working hours for all purposes. Almost 2 weeks ago I had a second lens replacement to match my first in my other eye. As a consequence, I no longer need glasses for distance. But I do need them for reading, including on the internet. It's a new experience for me to have to manually "switch" though I've seen others do so for decades.

I've had to change my zoom settings for websites. Interestingly, because of the zoom functions in PDF readers and MS Word*, it's better without the glasses to get the right focus.

I guess it's not that huge of a thing as I've always worn glasses, but it's still something to get used to. I probably will need to carry my reading glasses in class I need to read a label or menu or whatever.

* OT: I don't know if I ever mentioned it, but years ago I came upon an excellent pair of macros for MS Word that permits one to zoom in or out instantly via CTRL + and CTRL-. This feature is native to PDF readers, but not Word. They are so convenient that whenever I set up a new laptop or reinstall Word, I make sure to transfer them. If you need them, let me know.

I have discovered progressive/multi-focus reading glasses to be superior to the basic type. Much easier to switch between distances.

Irritatingly, New York State Law prohibits shipping such to its residents. (Why am I not surprised?) Fortunately, eBay vendors will still ship them.
