Did you polish all that ? Beautiful attention to detail

I have been trying to clean up an old aluminum valve cover that I finally just painted just so it's painted. I'd need a media blaster to fully strip it and there was oxidation that's just in there

I think I posted this before, but this was a fool/drug addict brought to Home Depot a few times to let sit in the lunch room dripping fuel. For some strange reason, people objected.

That's art ... two different color duct tape. Black to secure fuel tank and stop (no not really) the rust hole leak and I guess silver is the high performance stuff you need to hold that carb/cylinder head together. Not just everybody can do that you know - some folks are ingeniously creative.

No polishing except for inside exhaust port and inside tranfers.

For us wrench turners I've found a neat US company that makes some very well made tools you won't go broke buying:
The Innovator in Specialty Tools Since 1903

I've got a set of thread chasers they made that are superb. Just ordered a pair of CV boot clamp pliers. Worth looking at if you're shopping for a specialty tool.

I also hate to admit it but lately Autozone has put itself in my good graces. Mostly it's that like any retail store the turnover rate is high and they tend to run hot and cold. For that reason I avoided the one right down the road until the other day. Lots of OEM Tools in there - well made and Duralast that claim to be guaranteed for life. I grabbed a metric 6 point 3/8 socket set for $16. So far they seem fine, they turn da nuts & bolts.

Horrible Freight is still there and they have their purposes and occasional use. Like laxatives. Only when you need it, IMO. That said, I grabbed a 1 1/4" impact socket 1/2" drive for like, $4 the other day as opposed to $21 at Autozone.

I still have a KAL 36mm socket i only used 1 time, back in 1986 to take a flywheel nut off a vw bug. Bought from a snapon truck, so $$. We ended up breaking 2 craftsman breaker bars before we finally got it off.. The 66 bug i turned into a baja, put a bigger motor with a cam and headers, vroom vroom but here lately i`ve been going to harbor freight mostly for a mini file set, a rotary tool. a few tings like that.

My freind had a bike with a motor that got stole. but it had 2 broken motor mount studs 1 on the front and 1 on back, both were on the right side, he had it wired to the frame. all his bikes are messed up it seems, even the 1 now has a good motor but he broke the frame but has jbwelded it near the top of the seat tube on a cruiser.

I've been spending far more time than usual playing backyard mechanic and enjoying it a lot - sometimes more than others. I spent about two hours yesterday 'having the conversation' [see....channeling Lue Elizondo there but I don't wear blue gloves] with a stuck rotor set screw. Quite a pickle for such a little p.o.s. Probably 20 years ago some idiot stripped it right out and I had to go through the whole bag o' tricks. Cold chisel and vice grips and a small sledgehammer did the trick. It's a rounded 3 pounder with a short wood handle from the '50s but can be the handiest damned thing in the world. It doesn't know what year it is.

I just used an 18" breaker with a 1.25" 6 point socket to take off a spindle nut that was staked on. I never go to DefCon 4 right out of the gate. My brother is a retired heavy equipment mechanic and showed me how to get a feel for things like that; soaked overnight in penetrating oil, wiggle wiggle ask nicely a bit more each time and then apply the bionic bigfoot rage. Either the nut was going to come off or I'd flip the car over. Nut came off and I didn't drop either of mine in the process.

I went and double checked the service manual just to be sure. Yes, absolutely. It says both of these tings are required. I guess they must have them at the dealership

Last night my freind and i were sitting on my front porch, when a blue beem of light from the back of the house across from us shined up into the sky,. It was about a 2 - 3 foot diameter blueish beem of light and only lasted a split sec, we both seen it, and kinda thought it was people with a flash light, as we were talking about what it could`ve been, the light darted up into the sky quicker than a blink of an eye, it wasn`t a beem that time but an object of light and it stopped up in the sky for a sec and disappeared.

More of this because I felt like it. We had it out yesterday and as I've said, it can be an attention getter to the point of menace every single time we take it out no matter what. Tons of fun to drive, not quite as sedate as the Swedish Fish. Hotter, louder, far less comfortable, you're right out in the sun and wind with several hundred more horses in the power barn and, as Maxwell Smart would say, loving it.
